Sebastian Higgins (b. 2005) is an artist from Long Island, currently living between Suffolk county and Manhattan, New York. Working across drawing, painting, video, and photography, his practice navigates the contradictions of queer digital life — the harm and intimacy that coexist within spaces like grindr, the way online worlds seep into and distort the physical. Sourcing material from app interfaces, erotic media, and personal archive, he renders, cuts, and pastes or projects these images onto bodies and objects. Projection, both literal and psychological, is central to his process — a reflection of how persistently and introspectively he returns to his subject matter.
His work moves between self-portraiture and the domestic lives of others, tracing longing, sexual freedom, and the body as a site of stored experience. He is currently pursuing a degree in studio art at New York University, where he works as a gallery assistant. He has also served in multiple roles at the Fire Island Artist Residency.
